![]() Looking at devices like the Google Pixel - which uses USB-PD over USB Type-C (5V/3A) to deliver “rapid charging” - charging speeds only slow when the phone’s internal temperature reaches a specific threshold, something you typically wont see unless you’re gaming. Here’s what we got in our testing:īy comparison, the ZTE Blade V8 Pro - which features a similarly sized 3,140 mAh battery and Quick Charge 2.0 - took 1 hour 32 minutes to reach a full charge while charging with a YouTube video playing the entire time. To give you a better idea of how much slower your device will charge while you’re actually using it, we were only able to reach a full a charge on our S8 after charging it for almost 3 full hours despite the device giving us the usual “Fast Charging” notification. You’ll find mention of it for the S6 here, and the S7 in their own user guide. You wont find this small detail in Samsung’s spec sheet or anywhere else where they talk about the device’s fast charging capabilities - but it’s most definitely a thing. Well, since Samsung is using the same Fast Charging technology in the S8 as the previous year’s Galaxy S7 and S6, the exact same caveat applies: Fast Charging only works while the screen is off. So what gives? Galaxy S8 can’t Fast Charge while you’re using it Other times you’ll find it takes much, much longer. On a good day, the Galaxy S8 with its 3,000mAh battery go from 0% to a full charge in just 1 hour and 37 minutes. Like our Facebook Page here at NasiLemakTech. The Galaxy S8 uses the same Adaptive Fast Charger as the previous year’s model, charging the device at either 9V/1.6A or 5V/2A - which is the equivalent of (and compatible with) Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0. And S22 series is nowhere to be found on that website too. Though, currently, DNB’s website hasn’t been updated to reflect the support for Galaxy S21 devices yet. That can literally replace fiber home connections for many households.Īgain, this is only the first step of early testing via the Galaxy S21 series devices and Samsung is fully committed to unlocking the 5G service to all of its compatible smartphones and tablets by working closely with telco companies and DNB to make sure everyone gets to use the service as early as possible. With that said, the sweetness of 900+Mbps download and 136Mbps upload can theoretically cover the Internet usage of multiple families at once is what we’re seeking. As of now, it took us a few different tries before getting this money shot. We should be able to get more consistent gigabit speeds when the infrastructure matures even more. This is what 5G is supposed to be and is capable of. ![]() ![]() At certain times, it hovers around 300 to 400+ Mbps which itself are pretty fast speeds already you can stream things like 4K videos without any problem but that’s not what we want to show.Īnd there you have it. We were pretty much in direct line of sight with the 5G cell tower and we are out in the open too.Īfter running a couple of speed tests on the phone, what we got is a rather stable upload speed at around 64 to 65Mbps but the download speed isn’t what we expected. The place where we conducted the test also has a full signal bar as well to keep the test results as consistent as possible. The logo looked completely different, by the way. To start things off, when the device is within the service zone of a 5G network, the phone will switch to it automatically and you can the big “5G” on the top there instead of the usual 4G+. On this occasion, we went to Putrajaya’s Dataran Putra to test the feature live on the test site to see the power of 5G ourselves. With all that bandwidth, you can do anything just as you do with a LAN-connected PC – play games, stream videos, HD video calls, and more without a hitch. Just by plugging in a compatible SIM card that is 5G enabled, the phone will automatically engage the 5G signal and provide astounding levels of Internet connection rivaling cable speeds. The One UI 4.1 software update basically unlocked the 5G compatibility for the Galaxy S21 series smartphones including the S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra during the March 1 rollout.
